Pyrite from Merelani is noted for it's high luster and complex form, and this specimen is one of the best I've ever owned, one that I've held in my collection for years. It has large size, top metallic luster over all surfaces (others have matte luster in areas) and the color is wonderful. It's a tall oval in shape, well crystallized all around with a point of contact on the base. There is some damage as to be expected on most Pyrite from this locality, and areas where contacted from Graphite and Calcite. Trigon growth hillocks are present on some of the faces. There is even Tanzanite and Diopside grown into the base. Due to the high luster it was hard to photograph and you will find this to be much better in person than the photos. Ex. Mike Keim.
