Sheets of Gold with Arsenopyrite in white Quartz. The largest leaf of Gold is 1.4cm wide. The back is sawcut and reveals veins of solid Gold running through the Quartz - a significant amount. Discovered in 1875, the Homestake Mine was a deep underground gold mine that operated until 2002. For a period, it was the largest and deepest gold mine in North America. The mine produced more than forty million troy ounces of gold during its lifetime. Despite this, Gold specimens from this mine are scarce. Ex.
