Gogotte's are millions-of-years old, naturally shaped sandstone concretions, consisting of tiny quartz fragments held together by calcium carbonate. The finest specimens are found in Fontainebleau, France, renowned for its extremely fine-grained, porcelain-like sands. They are considered natural mineralogical works of art and take on unique forms such as this one. Gogottes were inspirations to artists and were used to decorate the gardens at the Palace of Versailles. They formed during the Oligocene (approx. 30 million years ago). This specimen is complete all around and undamaged
