High quality black Andradite crystals known as Melanite. The San Benito area is very rich mineralogically - besides Benitoite, Fresnoite,
Artinite, Karpatite, Perovskite, and many others, the Andradite crystals are highly sought after here. The area produces green (Demantoid), golden
(Topazolite), and black (Melanite) varieties. This specimen would rank as a good example with larger than average crystal size and a
good mixture of clustered and isolated crystals.
